Why Team Building Matters in Magia Record
Magia Record isn't just about pulling powerful characters — it's about how those characters work together. A well-constructed team of A-tier units will consistently outperform a poorly built team of S-tier characters. Understanding the core principles of team building is the single biggest skill upgrade you can make as a player.
The 5-Slot Team Structure
Every team in Magia Record consists of up to 5 magical girls. A balanced team typically includes:
- 1–2 Main Attackers (DPS): Your primary damage dealers. Should be attribute-matched to the enemy.
- 1 Buffer/Debuffer: Boosts team ATK or reduces enemy DEF/RES. Massively amplifies overall damage.
- 1 Healer or Tank: Keeps the team alive through sustained fights and boss mechanics.
- 1 Flex Slot: A second support, a niche damage dealer, or a counter-pick for specific content.
Understanding Attribute Matchups
Magia Record uses a rock-paper-scissors attribute system with six elements:
| Attribute | Strong Against | Weak Against |
|---|---|---|
| 🔥 Fire (炎) | Forest | Water |
| 💧 Water (水) | Fire | Forest |
| 🌿 Forest (森) | Water | Fire |
| ⚡ Light (光) | Dark | Dark |
| 🌑 Dark (闇) | Light | Light |
| ⚪ Null/Colorless | — | — |
Using an attacker whose attribute is strong against the enemy can increase damage by a significant multiplier. Always check the stage's enemy attributes before setting your team.
Disc (Connect) Synergy
Magia Record's battle system is driven by discs — Blast, Charged, and Accele types — that characters contribute to the shared pool. Building a team with good disc synergy means:
- Accele-heavy teams: Fill MP fast to spam Magia moves. Great for burst damage strategies.
- Blast-heavy teams: Maximize per-turn damage output. Effective against high-HP enemies.
- Charge-heavy teams: Build toward powerful combo finishers. Excellent for boss fights.
Check each character's disc loadout before selecting your team. A team of five Accele-type characters will charge MP extremely fast but may lack raw damage output on regular turns.
Memoria Loadouts
Each magical girl can equip memoria cards that provide passive stat boosts and sometimes active skills. Key tips:
- Equip HP-up or DEF-up memoria on your healer/tank to maximize survivability.
- Give ATK-up or damage-type memoria to your main DPS units.
- Use MP-gain memoria on supports to keep buffs and heals cycling quickly.
- Attribute-specific memoria (e.g., Fire ATK Up) are more efficient than generic ATK Up when you know the matchup.
Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid
- Running 5 attackers: Without a healer or buffer, you'll hit hard but die fast or do less total damage.
- Ignoring attribute matchups: Even a weak character of the right attribute can outperform a strong off-attribute unit.
- Neglecting memoria upgrades: Upgraded memoria provide significantly better stats. Don't leave them at level 1.
- Spreading resources too thin: Focus on building 5–7 core characters deeply rather than investing lightly in 20 characters.
Sample Beginner Team
If you're just starting and have a limited roster, here's a safe team structure:
- Iroha Tamaki — Attacker/Healer hybrid (great all-rounder)
- Any A-Tier Attacker — Matching the stage attribute
- Sana Futaba — Healer/Barrier support
- Any Buffer — Mifuyu Azusa or similar
- Flex: Second attacker or situational pick
This setup covers healing, damage, and buffing while keeping things straightforward for newer players.
